Shakira Thompson Ms. O’Donnell March 8, 2013 Catcher in the Rye This test consists of 54 questions. It was the most complicated than the others that I have taken. My reason for saying this is because I got thrown off by the letter and the poem. While in our groups, we were going over the questions and discussing them and to my knowledge most of the people in my group had the same questions as I had incorrect. An example of a question that I got incorrect was question number 16 which states “The narrator’s attitude toward George Washington is that he (A) admires Washington for his personal traits but recognizes that his style of leadership is ill-suited to the present conflict (B) excoriates Washington for his unwillingness to take appropriate action (C) understands that Washington is aggrieved by the acts of the North (D) praises Washington as a man of great actions, fine advice, and unshakeable ethics (E) believes that Washington has contributed to the present state of anarchy and civil war.” I chose answer choice E because at some point in the letter they had mentioned anarchy but it was incorrect. However, the correct answer was D because of the strong words like “noble deeds” that was used to describe Washington. An example of a question I got incorrect was question number 33 which asks “The technique the poet uses in lines 9-10 to develop the poem’s meaning is (A) onomatopoeia (B) understatement (C) repetition (D) litote (E) figurative language.” I chose answer choice C and it was correct because looking back at those lines “His heart his wound received from my sight; My heart was wounded with his wounded heart;” there was repetition. Although the test was complicated it also tests the students and I on how well we know and understand our vocabulary when used I context or a piece of poetry, letter or speech. In addition this test was a fair one even thought I like the previous one better.
